Owensboro Students for Life, a nonprofit organization of high school students who say they are committed to the pro-life cause, set up a “Cemetery of Innocents” on Tuesday.

Students for Life is an organization with groups across the nation. Owensboro’s group was formed by twin sisters Evie and Ellie Kline, local high school students in Owensboro. Evie is the president of the group, while Ellie is the vice president. Their mom Elizabeth serves as advisor.

“Our goal is to get the news out there that even though you’re young, you can still involve yourself in this movement. You don’t have to wait until you’re an adult,” Ellie said.

The Cemetery of the Innocents was on display on the front lawn of Christ Presbyterian Church on KY 54. The group set up 600 small crosses for the display.

“Each cross represents three babies that have been killed by a chemical abortion every day in the U.S. alone,” Evie said.

Elizabeth said an anonymous couple in Owensboro donated all 600 crosses, which were made by hand, as well as donating funds to the group.

“A lot of families and young people come out and get really active in the pro-life movement,” Elizabeth said. “It’s been great to see a lot of people come behind us and even the pro-life organizations in Owensboro such as Care Net, Right to Life, Birth Right, and even Hancock County Coalition. They have all come behind us and have been very supportive.”

Although no issues dealing with abortion were on the ballot in Kentucky this election cycle, students in attendance on Tuesday held up signs showcasing their stance and urging the community to vote for life.

“The babies aren’t able to speak or defend themselves, so we have to,” said group member Katie St. Clair.

Group member Adelyn Lee added, “We want the younger generation to see us out here supporting this movement.”
