One of the longest-running races in the region, the 38th annual Grant G. Talbott III Memorial Run is set for Saturday morning, and will again include a virtual option. There will also be door prizes, including a drawing for $250 cash.
The race is put on by Owensboro Community and Technical College. In-person participants will run the 5K on November 2, while virtual participants may choose their own path and log their time online.
All pre-registered participants (sign up here) will receive a commemorative T-shirt. Shirts are not guaranteed for late registrants. Race day registration and check-in is from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at OCTC’s main campus at 4800 New Hartford Road.
The entry fee is $35, and $20 for current OCTC students. All proceeds go to support OCTC students.
The 5K race/walk begins at 9 a.m. at Legion Park on East Byers Avenue and continues around Veach Road, ending at OCTC. Participants are asked to park on the OCTC campus. A complimentary shuttle will transport participants to the starting line.
There will be door prizes, including a drawing for $250 cash. Participants must be present to win, and only in-person participants are eligible for door prizes, drawings, and trophies. Awards and prize drawings will begin immediately following the race.
The race is named in honor of Grant G. “GG” Talbott, who served as a counselor at OCTC for 10 years after retiring from Owensboro High School. He was a friend and mentor to many during his lifelong commitment to education. Talbott coordinated the road race from 1998-2007.
Sponsors of the race include Owensboro Municipal Utilities, Don Moore Automotive, Champion Ford, Five Star Food Service, Great Harvest Bread Company, University of Kentucky Daviess County Extension Service, and YMCA.
