Owensboro Health hosting Emergency Preparedness Expo this Friday

In a bid to help the community develop personal responses to natural and man-made disasters, Owensboro Health is hosting a free Emergency Preparedness Expo this Friday. It will feature exhibits by local first-responder agencies, utilities, law enforcement, and medical response teams.

The event will take place at the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital Café Meeting Rooms from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We always hope for the best, but we need to be prepared for the worst,” said Katie Case, Emergency Management Specialist at Owensboro Health and leader of the expo. “We want our community to be prepared and our citizens to feel confident when it comes to responding to disasters.”

This event, sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in recognition of National Preparedness Month, is free and open to the public.

Expo Highlights:

  • Safety presentations and demonstrations:
    • Fire, water, gas, and electrical safety
    • Emergency first aid and CPR
    • Hospital and county first response teams
    • Severe weather preparedness
    • Search and rescue operations
    • Gun safety and active shooter precautions
    • Preventing chronic health conditions
    • Wilderness survival tips
  • Interactive experiences:
    • Tour HealthForce Kentucky’s mobile technology center, Healthforce 1
  • Giveaways and Prizes:
    • Free flashlight for each guest
    • Entry into a drawing for various safety-related prizes upon visiting all exhibits
