The annual Freedom Walk will return to Owensboro on Wednesday, September 11, to honor the lives lost in the 9/11 attacks and show support for local first responders.
The Owensboro-Daviess County Veterans Organizations Committee organizes the event. It will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Fire Station #1, 512 W. 9th St., and conclude with a ceremony on the courthouse lawn.
The Freedom Walk has become an annual tradition in Owensboro since 2003. It was inspired by a desire to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, including those of first responders who risked and sacrificed their lives.
The Veterans Organizations Committee organizers said the event creates an opportunity for the community to come together, reflect, and honor the heroes who served on that tragic day.
