The Veterans Empowered Together (VET) Military Ball will return to the Owensboro Convention Center on November 16. Kentucky Remembers created the formal event in 2018 as a “dress-to-impress” evening to recognize military veterans, service members, and their families.

Derek “Doc” Van Tuyl, with Veterans Empowered Together, said the evening will offer entertainment and inspiration.

“It’s a way to celebrate veterans in our community every year,” Van Tuyl said. “It’s also a great way to bring the veteran and civilian community together.”

Major General Jerry D. Humble is this year’s keynote speaker. Humble is a Russellville native and a retired two-star general in the U.S. Marine Corps. After concluding a successful military career in 2003, he accepted a Cabinet-level appointment to become the director of Tennessee’s Office of Homeland Security.

The Andy Brasher Band will be providing this year’s entertainment. Owensboro Health is this year’s title sponsor.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour, followed by dinner and ceremonies at 7 p.m. It is free for active and retired military personnel and $70 for civilians, with the funds benefitting veterans in need. Tickets to the event are available here or at the door.

Van Tuyl said VET exists as a group of veterans helping other veterans in the community.

“We have a large veteran community here in Owensboro and several people who support them,” he said. “It’s nice to dress up to dress up, celebrate veterans, and enjoy yourself. It’s just an all-around fun evening with several military traditions.”
