Owensboro Parks and Recreation will celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month in an exciting fashion. To highlight the significant impact of parks and recreation in Owensboro, the department has several fun activities and giveaways planned.

“This is a great opportunity to draw attention to the hard work and efforts of our staff to make Owensboro Kentucky’s number one city to live, work, and play, said Director of Parks and Recreation Amanda Rogers.

Rogers said the month is a time to reiterate the department’s commitment to preserving green spaces, improving quality of life, and improving the local economy through sports and recreation tourism.

“Parks add value to the community daily,” she said. “There are physical, mental, social, and emotional benefits to visiting a local park. Playgrounds offer children a place to improve their motor skills and to learn how to play with others. There are no social statuses at the park; it’s kids learning how to play with other kids.”

Owensboro Parks and Recreation is encouraging the community to share their favorite Owensboro park experience by using the hashtags #ParksandRecMonth2024 and #OBKYParks. The City of Owensboro will then use the submitted photos throughout the year to showcase the many benefits of parks and recreation.

The special events are listed below:
