Dirk Dooper has been promoted from assistant to County Engineer after just less than a year of service with the Daviess County Fiscal Court. Dooper will replace Mark Brasher, who served as County Engineer for 13 years.

Dooper sees the position as a positive challenge and feels his experience has prepared him for the role.

“I’ll be overseeing all the aspects of the position, from roads, bridges, and stormwater, so it’ll be a good challenge, but it’s something that I’m ready for,” Dooper said.

Dooper began serving as Assistant County Engineer in September 2023 after transferring from the City of Owensboro’s Engineering Department. In his position with the City, he focused more on paving development.

As County Engineer, Dooper said he will look into the current budget to get used to the current operation boundaries and begin to find ways to advance the County in any way he can.

Getting used to the landscape of Daviess County was a mission for him, as Dooper noted that the county varies from east to west and that the floodplains are in different states.

“I’ll continue to come up with ways to expand and continue to learn how to help the County. Right now, I’ll just be looking to take the ball forward from Mark Brasher,” Dooper said. “Mark has been a wealth of good information as I’ve gotten to learn everything here and I’ve been very fortunate to work with him,” Dooper said.

Dooper will officially begin his position on August 1.
