Vinyl records lovers will have a major opportunity to add to their collection this weekend during the inaugural Romp & Roll Record Show, a 3-day event featuring approximately 100 vendors offering all manner of music items.
The event is scheduled for June 28-30 inside the Owensboro Convention Center and will coincide with the annual ROMP Festival activities.
Event organizer Jeremy Bonfiglio said vinyl lovers will feel like a kid in a candy store.
“Walking into a room like that and seeing that much music during what is the biggest 3-day record store in the area for that weekend, people will take advantage of the opportunity. You’ll find some music you love and talk to the dealers because we’re in this because we love music,” Bonfiglio said.
He noted that when planning the event, they were instantly attracted to planning around ROMP Fest and adding a layer of music to the weekend.
“This gives them an opportunity to explore downtown and come for a couple of hours, if not spend most the day with us buying some music,” Bonfiglio said.
Bonfiglio organizes five other record shows throughout the country, saying they are multi-day events that tend to be held annually. His hope is that this year’s Romp and Roll turnout will help make the event a recurring feature of ROMP.
Bonfiglio said the show operates by registering record sellers and letting them set up booths with their catalogs. He said there’s no way to know how many records will be on sale, but Bonfiglio aims to have 100 vendors present.
Each vendor setup tends to differ, Bonfiglio said, as some will have shelves while others will have bins for people to dig through.
Attendees will find new and used LPs, 45s, CDs, cassettes, memorabilia, posters, and storage supplies. Vendors will have bluegrass, Americana, country, classic rock, pop, metal, punk, prog rock, and ’80s hits.
“We’re here for everybody, so we’re going to have a wide range of music,” he said. “But ultimately, we’re tying it to the ROMP Festival and are excited for how many music lovers are going to be in town,” he said.
