Usually when you hear about firefighters rescuing a kitten, it’s a story about climbing into a tree. On Thursday, a crew with the Owensboro Fire Department got creative with rescuing one out of a sewer drain.

According to a post on the OFD Facebook page, a call came to dispatch about a kitten meowing from inside a sewer drain.

“OFD 3rd Crew went downtown to size up the scene and to offer help. After some quick brainstorming and ingenuity our guys were able to offer the kitten a solution … our new friend climbed into one of our rope bags and allowed rescuers to hoist the little one up to safety. This gentle creature was quickly adopted at the scene and our guys were all smiles,” the post reads. “If you are interested in adopting a pet to be part of your family please contact Daviess County Animal Shelter or one of our other great local shelters.”
