While the Owensboro Museum of Science and History is undergoing renovations, it will still host events throughout the summer to engage the community. Their first summer event revives their “History Served Up” series today, with two local actors telling the story of the Sulphur Springs Hotel in Ohio County.
The event will kick off at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and dessert will be served, and participants will receive two drink tickets. The event cost $30 per ticket.
Museum Executive Director Kathy Olson said they are excited to bring the event back for a facility that has a storied history and will have some interaction beyond the theater performance.
“At the Sulfur Springs Hotel, there was dancing and all kinds of activities. So Barry Lanham and the Footstompin Express are going to do a demo and do a combination of square dancing and clogging with just a few performers as another part of the evening’s entertainment,” Olson said.
The story of the Sulfur Springs Hotel will be told through the eyes of Melvina and David Morton, played by Grae and Tucker Greer, respectively. In the 1880s, the hotel was a bustling health resort just south of Dundee with a popular dance hall.
In addition to the performance, Olson said they will be hosting a half-pot to allow patrons the chance to win a prize.
