The City of Whitesville will host its 16th annual Fireworks in the Park tonight at the Whitesville Community Park on KY 54. The event features activities throughout the afternoon, followed by a lengthy fireworks display.
Attendees can enjoy inflatables, many craft booths, and food vendors. While the city orchestrates the event, Mayor Patsy Mayfield said several local businesses play a significant role. The event also serves as a fundraiser for the local schools.
She added that last year’s event saw a record turnout.
“This is a family fun night that brings the community together,” Mayfield said. “The show is excellent. It typically lasts 45 minutes, and you can see it all across the county’s east side.”
Food vendors will begin serving at 5 p.m., while inflatables and music will start at 6 p.m. The fireworks will commence shortly after dusk.
This year’s event also features a flag presenting ceremony by the Green River Association Honor Guard and Whitesville Fire Department.
Mayfield encourages spectators to bring their lawn chairs and arrive early to secure a good spot. She said thousands were in attendance last year and hopes the crowd will continue to grow.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to showcase the park; we’ve really put a lot of work into it,” she said. “I’m not sure how many people we can squeeze in there, but they keep coming and finding a space.”
