Newton Parrish Elementary School’s playground will receive a renovation thanks to a $3,300 donation by the Fraternal Order of Eagles 4160.

Self said they plan to add activities and space to give the students more to do.

“With the amount of kiddos that we have here, and the space we’re going to have, the more things they can do, the more fun they’re going to get out of it,” Self said.

FOE President Kenny Riley said they collected the funds alongside their auxiliary group after learning about the school’s efforts to improve its playground.

“We do fundraisers every month for different organizations. So we ended up choosing Newton Parrish, and our auxiliary’s vice president spearheaded it. This ended up being one of the largest we’ve ever had. We were just so happy and overjoyed to help Newton Parrish,” Riley said.

NPES Principal Andrew Self said the school has been working on the playground for several years and the funds will bring the finished project closer. With roughly 550 students, the playground has almost 100 kids on it at any given time.
