The Big O Gospel Jam is returning for year two at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Thursday, with a newfound spark for a celebration of the National Day of Prayer.
The jam session will start at 6 p.m. on the back lawn of the Hall of Fame.
Hall of Fame Education Director Randy Lanham said they wanted to take the momentum that followed the last jam, plus from their record-breaking performance, to offer a family-friendly event for the community.
“There’ll be some older gospel music and then some newer contemporary music, but they’ll all be done as acoustic versions of some of those songs, so it’ll be a mix,” Lanham said.
The jam will start with music from the staff at the Hall of Fame, followed by the Big O Bluegrass Band with the hope that attendees or other musicians will join as well.
“We’ll just make it open for anybody and everybody if you want to sing. Even if you don’t play an instrument, you can join, or if you play an instrument, you can play,” Lanham said. “… It’s a big bluegrass jam. I don’t know if we’ll have 200 people or 1,000, but it doesn’t matter. We’re just gonna come together.”
Lanham said they will also lead prayer over the country and community between sets.
Lanham said anyone interested in joining the performance from the crowd can request chord charts for free from him of the following songs:
- Will The Circle Be Unbroken (Key: D)
- Amazing Grace (Key: D)
- I’ll Fly Away (Key: D)
- This Little Light of Mine (Key: C)
- God Bless America (Key: D)
- How Great Thou Art (Key: G)
- Keep On The Sunny Side (Key: C)
- I Saw The Light (Key: D)
Lanham encourages attendees to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on the lawn.
