Western Kentucky Silent Disco will hold a Summer Series this spring and summer on 2nd Street at the Pub. The discos, which will feature different themes each time, will kick off on April 27 and run through September 28.
“Each month, we will have a different theme for the evening,” said Western Kentucky Silent Disco Owner Palmer Dempsey. “Each set of headphones has 3 channels for participants to choose from, making truly something for everyone. One channel will have music from that month’s theme while simultaneously rotating genres on the other 2 channels.”
Silent discos resemble a typical disco, where people get together to dance, with one exception: everyone wears headphones. According to several media outlets, the concept originated at festivals like Bonnaroo and Glastonbury, where festivalgoers wanted to keep the party going while observing local noise ordinances.
Thanks to Dempsey, the concept has increased in popularity locally over the past few years.
“For each disco, we will close 2nd Street between Allen and St. Ann,” he said. “North and south-bound traffic on St. Ann and Allen will continue normally. We have headphones available for rent for $5.”
Here is a list of the Summer Series dates with themes.
- April 27 – Flower Power
- May 25 – Born in the USA
- June 22 – Glow Party
- July 27 – 80s Night
- August 24 – 90s Night
- September 28 – Taylor Swift
In addition to hosting public silent discos, Dempsey said they will also host private events and have equipment available for rent.
“We have provided equipment for festivals, school dances, wedding receptions, and even just birthday and house parties,” he said. “While we provide DJs when needed, we also have options for people to set up and run their own silent disco.”
Dempsey said each disco during the series is through a partnership with The Pub on 2nd.
