Bluegrass Music Academy

The Bluegrass Music Academy has launched online lessons for fiddle, guitar, and mandolin under the tutelage of Randy Lanham, Education Director at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum.

Laanham has been a performer for more than 40 years, playing in many country and bluegrass bands (including those for Clay Walker, Wade Hayes, and Tracy Lawrence) and touring with artists such as George Strait, Brooks and Dunn, Alan Jackson, and Faith Hill. He has played on the Grand Ole Opry, Austin City Limits, The Tonight Show, and more.

“Each song is broken down so you can easily learn at your own pace, line by line,” Lanham said. “The are simple but fun songs, with included audio tracks and tabs to download. You can slow down or speed up songs. Simplicity makes this website different from others, giving anyone with an interest the ability to play simple and fun songs in no time.”

According to a release, the lessons include:
• More than 50 songs with more being added weekly
• Videos breaking down simple techniques and reading charts and tablature
• Audio tracks of each song
• Workshops from ROMP
• Special tips and tricks from artists who perform at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum
• Personal question-and-answer segments
• Discussion boards to ask questions and talk with other musicians

Lanham said those with specific questions or advice can email him a video link to personally show what they may be struggling with. He will respond within 3-5 days with a video explaining and helping you along the way. Contact Lanham at [email protected].

“Download the audio tracks of each song, create your very own playlist, and take your music out in the community and share it with others,” Lanham said. “This is ‘Music with A Mission’ and that is just what we want to do is send you on a mission.”

You can try free unlimited access to online lessons for 14 days. Access then costs $25 per month. Proceeds from the lessons support the Bluegrass Music Academy’s outreach programming.
