Owensboro will soon be home to a 40’ by 12’ bourbon and whiskey wall at Barrel Heads, the new liquor store coming to Hayden Road near the Gateway Commons. The store is part of a development that features a Take 10 gas station convenience store and a Little Caesars Pizza.
The wall highlights the space, featuring custom woodwork resembling library shelving with a rolling ladder. There are also several bourbon barrels, a custom window design, and a tasting bar, so the name Barrel Heads seems fitting.
“We will have high-end bourbon and whiskeys like Pappy’s as well as anything you would purchase at a typical liquor store,” said store owner Daval Patel. “We’re also sourcing vintage and rare bottles. We’ll also have 200 bottles for tasting at the bar and will look to add more.”
The store will feature an assortment of domestic, imported, and craft beers, with tasting options for those as well. Patel said they’ll also have several wine and spirits options.
The new development sits at the intersection of Hayden Road and Anderson Lane, just across from the Malco movie theater. Patel said his goal was to offer a one-stop shop for consumers.
“The Gateway Commons is the newest development in Owensboro, and we know there is still room to expand,” he said. “We’ve been in the convenience and liquor store industry for a while, so we have a good feel for what consumers want. Our ultimate goal is convenience.”
The Take 10 Market and gas station features many standard convenience store offerings. It also boasts several gas pumps, including one designated pump where Take 10 will donate $.10 of each gallon purchased to neighboring Daviess County Middle School.
Patel said the Little Caesars is a new venture for the company, but it seemed fitting considering their goals. He expects the trio of businesses to open in March.
“We want to have a soft opening near the end of this month, followed by a grand opening in March,” he said. “It will be the biggest bourbon event Owensboro has ever seen, with several major bourbon raffles benefiting local nonprofits.”
Patel also hopes to capitalize on Owensboro’s newfound prominence on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and offer travelers and connoisseurs a place in town to sample and purchase hard-to-find bourbons.
