Owensboro’s Coin Club is hosting a buy-sell-trade show this month, and organizers hope it will help grow the local group of collectors.
The show will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on October 21 at the Opportunity Center (3560 New Hartford Road) and will have vendors buying, selling, and trading.
“They’re licensed coin businesses and they’ll sell a lot of silver. Sometimes people would just want to trade a coin for another coin or get another coin to complete their set,” said Greg Smith with the Coin Club.
The local club meets once a month to discuss coin collecting, how to properly care for coins, and sometimes money management. They meet at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at Kenergy’s Operations Center (3111 Fairview Drive).
They have hosted several events to promote the organization to the younger crowd. Smith said that the club’s members are often older, but said they have the experience to help those newer to coin collecting develop skills and knowledge.
“People will come to the club and say, ‘Hey, can you help me out, what should I do here?’ and they’ll guide them along on what to do,” Smith said.
Often, the meetings become a space for the members to share knowledge about coin collecting and trading, and they end with an auction.
