Owensboro Dance Theatre will present “The German American Bank Nutcracker” this December, and the company is auditioning for the extra roles in the holiday classic this Tuesday.

Auditioins will be held from 7-7:30 p.m. at Johnson’s Dance Studio (2705 Breckenridge Street).

Including community members in the performance is important to the artistic directors.

“As a nonprofit organization that serves our community, we strive to have as many community members as possible in our productions,” said Co-artistic Director Natalie Lopez.

Typically, there are 130 community dancers in the two casts. Many of them perform yearly and are later part of Owensboro Dance Theatre’s company.

Lopez said that dancers are asked to showcase their dance, along with any acting or special skills that would add to the performance.

Males and females ages 6-13 are encouraged to participate. A guardian must fill out a registration form prior to the audition. Adult male and female roles are also available. Current Johnson’s Dance Studio students who have submitted a registration do not need to audition.

If selected, there is a $75 performance fee; a limited number of scholarship opportunities are available.

Performances of “The German American Bank Nutcracker” are scheduled for 7 p.m. on December 2 and 3 p.m. on December 3.
