Owensboro’s newest food truck comes to the community through Torera Hibachi, a family-owned hibachi-style food trailer serving the tri-state. Long-time hibachi chef Steve Poll and his family opened the trailer in their front yard on Booth Avenue on Wednesday to a long line of patrons.
During a long tenure at Shogun, Poll developed quite a following in the area, putting on a show for several dedicated customers while crafting delicious food. His passion for the trade and his desire to own his own business were all the inspiration he needed to launch the food trailer.
Helping Poll on opening day was his wife Tina, who was taking orders while their two sons greeted customers and assisted where needed. While the spot in front of their home is temporary, the two were so delighted with the turnout that they extended their closing time by three hours.
“We had such a great turnout, and we want to thank everyone for stopping,” Poll said. “We had to extend our hours to accommodate everyone.”
The menu boasts several bowl options, including teriyaki chicken or steak, garlic shrimp, and vegetables, all served with rice and vegetables. Torera also offers combo bowls, side order options, and appetizers such as egg rolls, spring rolls, and edamame.
And, like many local hibachi-style establishments, they didn’t forget the crowd favorite: yum-yum sauce.
“We want to thank everyone that came out and supported us – it was definitely a great turnout for our soft opening,” he said. “We hope to see everyone again, along with several others who couldn’t make it on opening day.”
The Polls plan to begin taking the trailer to various events around the community. They also intend to set up for lunch at local businesses and schools.
The food trailer accepts cash or credit cards. Follow Torera on Facebook here to see its schedule and a detailed menu.
