The Tichenor No Creek Angus Farm has been around for 75 years, but they didn’t start selling their own herd’s USDA-certified Angus beef cuts until 3 years ago. Now they can regularly be found at the Owensboro Regional Farmers’ Market.
The farm is located in Ohio County and is run primarily by David Tichenor, a third-generation farmer who has been in the registered Angus business for a few years now. Family members from the second to the fifth generation all help out on the farm, making it truly a family business.
The farm has always raised cattle, but about 3years ago Tichenor told his wife that he wanted to look into the requirements for USDA freezer beef.
Tichenor said he noticed the demand for quality, home-raised USDA freezer beef. He said most people don’t know what they are buying at stores, or where it comes from.
So Tichenor’s farm got in the game, first starting at the Beaver Dam Farmers’ Market. The family wanted to be open and honest about how their cattle is raised, so people knew exactly what they were buying.
They eventually decided to expand their customer base.
“We came over to the Owensboro Farmers’ Market and looked around,” Tichenor said. “We liked it a lot. We’re still local, only 20 minutes away.”
The 2023 season is Tichenors’ first full year at the Owensboro market. They joined in the fall of last year for six Saturdays and decided to return this year.
Tichenor said everything raised on their farm is meant to improve herds, along with the best freezer beef for their customers. He said they also have a goal of selling a great product at an affordable price. They also avoid distiller syrup for their cattle, sticking to grain as the feed.
Tichenor’s sells USDA freezer beef in halves and wholes. They can also have the beef custom processed and packaged at their farm.
