Stephen Lawrence LTD – an upscale consignment boutique – is now open at Wesleyan Park Plaza in Owensboro. The store began in Lexington over three decades ago and was recently voted Lexington’s favorite men’s and women’s consignment boutique.
Unlike several thrift shops, the boutique only features designer and premier apparel — brands available range from Lilly Pulitzer and Gretchen Scott to Jude Connally and Jay Crew. The Owensboro location focuses on women’s clothing.
Brandy Hamilton is the third owner of the store in Lexington and is ecstatic to bring their fashion sense to Owensboro. While she is from eastern Kentucky, her husband Keith is from Owensboro.
Coincidentally, the same store that houses Stephen Lawrence LTD is where Keith’s mother once had a shop called May’s Bootery.
“We curate everything to resemble a boutique, not a thrift shop, and we take pride in only sourcing quality brands no more than 2-3 years old,” Hamilton said. “We recently found an old picture of May’s Bootery and discovered we would be in the same place she was for much of the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. It’s quite serendipitous.”
The store features clothing, shoes, accessories, and jewelry. Hamilton said they take in more than 100 items per week, often transporting items from the Lexington location to Owensboro.
“Our inventory is always changing because we take in so much,” she said. “Our store floor always changes with the seasons. We’re currently accepting fall clothing, including medium-weight fabrics, long sleeves, and clothing with fall colors.”
During the first part of the year, Stephen Lawrence accepts spring items such as lightweight fabrics, long sleeves, and spring colors before migrating to summer fashions during early April. When October hits, they shift gears to winter items like wool, sweaters, suede, boots, and coats.
Hamilton said she’s blessed to have a quality staff, including Lelia Morris, who manages the Owensboro location. The boutique is located at 2684 Frederica Street and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
“Come and give us a try,” Hamilton said. “We’re happy to be a part of Owensboro and eager to offer a wide range of fashion needs to the community.”
