University of Louisville basketball star Russ Smith has taken his bourbon on the road, kicking off a month-long tour earlier this week. He will be in Owensboro today for an appearance and signing, and will return again on Wednesday.

For both Owensboro stops, Smith will be at the Liquor Barn at 2216 New Hartford Road from 7:30-10 p.m.

Smith’s brand “Mr. & Mrs. Bourbon” has been on shelves for almost 2 years. After recently selling out, Smith is re-releasing four labels and introducing three new labels under the MMBC brand.

“We are hitting bars, restaurants and liquor stores all over Kentucky this summer,” he said. “We have fans all over the region and from all walks of life, so we will be doing public appearances and bottle signings. “It is important to reach our fan base and supporters. Even though the bourbon has been hard to get at times, we are coming strong this summer and look forward to being on the road and meeting fellow bourbon enthusiasts.”

Smith, who is known for his work ethic on the court and in the gym, has applied those same principles to building his business.

Smith is recently back from playing basketball overseas in Italy but still resides full time in Louisville.

“Russdiculous,” as he is known to many in the sports world, took time to build his business while rehabbing from an injury sustained in the NBA. Smith found his love for bourbon after playing on the 2013 National Championship team at Louisville.

MMBC has been on shelves of more than 90 liquor stores across Kentucky. Smith is looking to expand to other states in the near future as he ramps up production.

“Our product is quality, and in high demand, so we are working around the clock to meet that demand locally while exploring distribution to other states where they also want our product on the shelves,” he said.

The tour also includes stops in Elizabethtown and Bowling Green in addition to numerous places in Louisville.
