Kids ages 4-9 who are interested in ice hockey can give it a try for free this Saturday at the Edge Ice Center.
The Owensboro Youth Hockey Association is hosting the event. Vice President Chris Gendek said OHYA aims to make hockey accessible and affordable for all interested.
The event kicks off at 11 a.m. with equipment fittings and free skate rental. Participants will then receive instruction from OYHA coaches and Owensboro Rampage players.
Gendek said they hold Try Hockey For Free each year as part of Hockey Across America Week. He said OYHA wants to take advantage of the educational benefits of the week.
In addition to the free youth lessons, OYHA will also host another session of their Hockey Heroes program at 9 a.m. This program helps people with physical or intellectual disabilities learn how to skate and includes on-ice games for anyone to play. The Hockey Heroes program is a free monthly program.
