Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory plans to honor and remember approximately 250 individuals from the Owensboro-Daviess County community with their annual The Longest Night ceremony.

The service will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home (519 Locust Street) and includes a talk about grief, a video tribute, and a candle-lighting ceremony.

Kristine Aldridge said that the event is open to all in the community who have lost a loved one and would like to remember them during this time. The death does not have to have occurred in 2022 to be included in the service.

“It doesn’t have to be this past year, and it doesn’t have to be our funeral home that has served them. It can just be anybody who just wants to make sure that their loved ones are still remembered,” Aldridge said.

Aldridge said it’s important to be able to offer this service because it allows people the chance to grieve while also receiving love and support from the community.

“I think personally it’s important to do that. With my dad passing away when I was young, it’s something to help let families know that just because someone’s passed away — no matter if it’s been 5 years, 10 years, 20 years or two days — they’re still remembered, they’re still important,” Jones said.

The service will be led by Grief Counselor Dr. Jonathan Carroll.
