The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will return to Owensboro in 2024, according to a schedule released Tuesday. That means the Owensboro Air Show will have two of the most prolific flight demonstrations groups leading the lineups in back-to-back years, as the Air Force Thunderbirds will perform in 2023.

“We are thrilled to be able to announce the Blue Angels coming back again in 2024,” said City of Owensboro Public Events Director Tim Ross. “It is a real testament to the city of Owensboro to be able to attract two premiere U.S. military jet teams in back-to-back years with the Thunderbirds headlining our show in September 2023 and the Navy Blue Angels headlining again in September 2024.
The Air Show is a signature event for the city that attracts fans from all over the country and I am excited to continue that tradition in the coming years.”

The City of Owensboro previously announced the Thunderbirds would lead the Air Show the weekend of September 15-17, 2023.

While the City has not yet made any official announcements about the 2024 Air Show dates, the Blue Angels schedule released today shows them in Owensboro on September 14-15, 2024.

The Owensboro Air Show was on hiatus in 2022 and was not held in 2020. The Blue Angels headlined the 2018, 2019, and 2021 shows.

Regarding next year’s show, Ross previously announced that on Sept. 15, 2023, the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport will be open for demonstrations and have a wide range of aircraft on display.

The Thunderbirds last appeared at the 2015 Air Show and drew large crowds reaching upward 30,000 in attendance, according to Ross.

The 120-member team is made up of eight pilots that fly the iconic F-16 Fighting Falcon plane through different air shows and performances across the country.

Thunderbirds have been roaring through the sky as a team since 1953 and are known for several formations and maneuvers, all of which are performed at speeds exceeding 400 miles per hour.
