The 24th annual Owensboro Multicultural Festival will take place Saturday, celebrating diversity in the community in addition to offering more than 50 vendor booths and food trucks as well as live music.
The event will be held at the First Presbyterian Church (1328 Griffith Avenue) starting at 10 a.m.
This year’s event will feature representation of cultures from Tanzania, Bolivia, India, Cyprus, Cuba, and more. Officials said they especially look forward to the participation of refugee communities that have settled in the community, such as those from Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Myanmar/Burma.
The theme this year is “We’re Better Together: Building Bridges since 1998.”
“The Multicultural Festival is an opportunity to start conversations between people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Having fun together and enjoying each other’s company builds bridges,” said Debbie McCoy, Chair of the Owensboro Multicultural Festival Committee.
The festival will kick off at 10 a.m. with a performance from the Owensboro High School Choir followed by The People’s Parade as they walk around the festival grounds to celebrate unity.
More than 50 exhibit booths will be on site, as well as food truck representing a variety of cuisines.
On the main stage will be entertainment ranging from Afghan, Congolese, and Karenii dancers to a bluegrass band, gospel singing, and Spanish folk songs.
“The festival planning team has worked all year to build on the great tradition of the Multicultural Festival,” said Jeff Moles Director of Christian Education & Mission at FBC. “Visitors can expect more food, a wider variety of exhibitors, and more participation from Owensboro residents who have come from around the world.”
Festival sponsors include Owensboro Health, Thacker Wealth & Retirement – Raymond James, Southern Star, UniFirst, First Presbyterian Church, Atmos Energy, Independence Bank, and US Bank.
