The 2022 Owensboro-Daviess County Christmas Parade is now accepting float entry and vendor applications. The Parade is scheduled to return at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 with the theme “Christmas in the Movies.”
Applications must be completed on the Parade website christmasparade.net. Applicants are asked to read the parade rules, which can be found on the site along with FAQs, in full. They are also asked to fully fill out the application first, then proceed to the “Payments and Donations” page.
There, applicants will need to choose the appropriate payment for entry — either nonprofit ($50 fee) or commercial ($150 fee). Donations may also be made on this page.
Anyone with questions can email [email protected] or visit christmasparade.net. To keep up with the board’s plans for the event, follow the organization’s Facebook Page.
While the city helps with some aspects of the parade, the event is actually put on by the nonprofit Owensboro-Daviess County Christmas Parade Association. The Association has a board and utilizes volunteers to host the parade.
The funds to produce the parade come from entry fees, vendor fees, sponsorships, and donations.
The parade was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. In 2021, the Association decided to try a “static” version of the parade — where floats and performing groups would stand still while community members would walk by. However, a lack of excitement and engagement with the idea, along with funding concerns, led to the Association’s parade being canceled again.
There was still a parade last year, though, as a group of community members put together “The People’s Christmas Parade.”
Upon the Association announcing they were bringing back their annual parade — and with the traditional format — the community group said they do not plan to host their own event.
