The Cottage Farm Stand & Baking Co. is once again offering something new for the community, this time with a Strawberry Festival that is planned for June 11-12. In addition to all manner of strawberry-themed food and treats, the festival will include live entertainment, a petting zoo, a large arts and crafts vendor fair, and games of chance. Registration is open for vendors wishing to participate.
Owner Marlene Knight said the idea for the festival was relatively simple. She wanted to spotlight area producers and artisans. Proceeds from the games will benefit the Airport-Sorgho Fire Department Christmas Program.
“We are all about supporting not only our own farm but other local farms and businesses that produce their own products here and in the surrounding area,” Knight said. “For those that haven’t had a chance to visit The Cottage, this will be a great opportunity to stop by and find out what we’re all about.”
Last year, The Cottage held their inaugural Sunflower and Pickle Festival. Knight said the event was a great success and will return this year.
“We can tons of pickles and to see the fields of sunflowers in full bloom is just amazing,” Knight said. “We want to share that with everybody.”
Knight also grows an abundance of strawberries on her family farm so it made sense to host a Strawberry Festival, too.
“We want to constantly provide our customers with great food and entertainment for the whole family,” Knight said. “We have this great outdoor space and want everyone to enjoy it.”
Strawberry-themed food will of course be one of the major offerings at the festival. There will be a make-your-own strawberry shortcake station; snacks and desserts like coffee bars, muffins, cotton candy and cake pops; and several drink options such as slushies, specialty lattes and lemonade.
There will also be plenty of fresh strawberries to purchase, though guests won’t be able to pick their own fresh straight from the field.
There will be a per-car fee and guests will have to pay for food, but there the entertainment will be free.
Vendors looking to participate can register here. There are two options available: $40 for a 10×10-foot space or $75 for a 10×20-foot space. The fee covers both days of the event. Spaces are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. All spaces are outdoors and will not have access to electricity. More information can be found on the registration page.
The Cottage is located at 6869 KY 56 and is open every day of the week beginning at 6:30 a.m. They have a drive-thru, online ordering and dine-in availability.
