Lights on the Ohio is coming to downtown Owensboro this weekend. The event will feature a pyromusical performance of synchronized lighting on the Owensboro Bridge, music, and a fireworks display.

Lights on the Ohio will begin at 8:15 p.m. and will take place alongside the City of Owensboro’s weekly summer concert series Live on the Banks, which features live music from 7-9 p.m. in Smothers Park.

Tim Ross, Director of Public Events, said the city has wanted to do a big performance for the public since they completed the lengthy relighting project. An unveiling event was planned last August, but instead the ceremonial lighting of the bridge was live streamed.

“Obviously thousands of people have seen the lights and they enjoy them, but what we have planned to do from day one is this light show with some fireworks,” Ross said. “We just decided to go ahead and tie it into the HydroFair weekend. Around 8:15 we’ll do this fireworks and light show to kind of really showcase what those lights do on the bridge and have it synchronized to music and just give people another reason to come out downtown Saturday evening.”

Ross said the fireworks show would last about 10 minutes. He said guests can see and hear the show from nearly anywhere along the riverfront.
