The Bluegrass Century — a bicycle ride that offers three different routes for cyclists of all ages and experience levels — returns to Owensboro on Sept. 25. The ride is hosted by Bicycle Owensboro and benefits Young Life of Owensboro.
The event — formerly called Bourbon and Bluegrass Century — features a traditional century route (100 miles), a metric century (62 miles), and a 30-mile route. The ride begins and ends at Crosspointe Baptist Church at 550 Worthington Road with an 8 a.m. start time.
“There are several fully stocked rest stops along the route no matter which distance a rider chooses,” according to a release from Bicycle Owensboro. “The route will be posted on our Facebook page and will be accessible electronically through the app Ride with GPS.”
The cost to participate is $55 through Aug. 22 and will increase to $75 through the day of the ride. Walk-up registration is available on Sept. 24 or the morning of the ride. Individuals who register prior to Aug. 22 are guaranteed a T-shirt and “swag bag.”
The event also features food and merchandise vendors at the start and finish lines. To pre-register, click here. For more information, visit The Bluegrass Century Facebook Page.
The Young Life Organization began in Owensboro in 2011 as a nonprofit that focuses on building mentoring relationships with middle and high school students. To learn more about Young Life, click here.
According to their Facebook page, Bicycle Owensboro is a group dedicated to creating a friendlier, healthier, and greener Owensboro through bicycling. The group advocates for safe bike routes throughout the city and surrounding areas of Daviess County while also promoting bicycle safety.
“We are so excited to be able to revive this ride that had become a staple for cycling in Western Kentucky for several years,” the release reads. “We look forward to riding with you in beautiful Owensboro/Daviess County.”
