Heather Terry and Brooklyn Maple launched a true crime and comedy podcast – titled A Couple of Sassholes — in January 2022. The podcast is dedicated to honoring the victims of harm and those wrongly convicted of crimes. The duo hopes to shine a light on how to prevent crimes from occurring, be vigilant, and always trust your gut.

Terry said she and Maple embarked on the journey to find humor, justice, and the meaning behind some of the world’s most tragic losses. In just more than a year, the two Owenbsoro 30-something-year-olds have garnered over 10,000 downloads across 22 countries.

The podcast traces its humble beginnings back to Maple’s kitchen table with nothing more than a laptop. They began streaming on all major platforms 3 months later. While they’ve improved their technology and experienced monumental success, the mission remains the same: honoring victims and inspiring others to find ways to prevent crimes.

“Honestly, we first just wanted to discuss true crime together and found podcasting to be the right outlet for us,” Maple said. “From there, it grew into something more than we could have expected, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.”

They released their 75th episode, titled “75 is 75 too Many,” on November 30. It documents Lyle and Erik Menendez, brothers convicted in 1996 of killing their parents; along with the disappearance of Adam Walsh, son of John Walsh, who eventually became the host of America’s Most Wanted after seeking justice for his late son.

The podcast has featured multiple guests from the area, including Chadwick Benefield, Leslie Morgan Ling, Mary-Katherine Maddox, and Soraya Downing. Each guest has provided a detailed recollection of how their story and case have touched them.

“It’s been a wild ride,” Terry said. “Getting to speak with people like Johnetta Carr, who was wrongfully convicted of murder for more than 4 years, was inspiring, to say the least. I’m thankful that listeners can hopefully take something from each episode.”

New episodes are available at 7 a.m. every Thursday, available on all major podcast platforms.
