Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore sets to be the spiritual successor to several favorite classic video games like the Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Brothers, and other early 90s-era games, and at the game’s head is Owensboro game developer Seth Fulkerson.
Fulkerson said it had been his dream to create his own game since age 12, especially in the same vein as retro games from childhood.
Arzette is an action platform where players defeat enemies, explore stages, collect power-ups, and other traits that remind you of games from that era. The Kingdom of Faramore, the game’s setting, includes hand-painted backgrounds produced by several artists, including Rob Dunlavey, who previously worked on one of the games that inspired Arzette.
“It has a unique style with animated cartoon cutscenes – I would call it a family-friendly throwback game,” Fulkerson said.
He said that if people enjoy classic, retro-action adventures of the past, the game is right up their alley.
This wasn’t the first game that Fulkerson has worked on, as he made a fan remaster on a 90s game that drew some attention to Arzette. He said the development for the game began in late 2020 through his developing company Seedy Eye Software and partnering with Limited Run Games as the publisher.
Through the partnership with Limited Run Games, he said that they had grown a lot of interest in the project, which he was surprised to receive for the game.
“It’s absolutely been a dream come true. It was a lot of luck and a lot of hard work,” he said. “I honestly never really imagined this sort of thing happening to me. I had only hoped.”
Fulkerson said that the game does not have a release date, and they are still working on finishing it, hoping to release it by the end of the year.
The game will be available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series S/X, Steam, and Switch.
