On Saturday, Hops on the Ohio – an event celebrating Kentucky-crafted beers – returned to the Owensboro riverfront. Whether a beer enthusiast or not, residents and tourists from all over flocked to the Owensboro Convention Center for the event.

From 1 to 5 p.m., guests toured the convention hall and waterfront pier to sample a large selection of local and hard-to-find national brands. Event-goers could also enjoy live music, soak in riverfront views, and peruse items from various vendors.

“This is one of the smoothest events we’ve had,” Anderson said. “The Convention Center has been very pleasing to partner with – their entire staff has been accommodating through this entire event.”

Co-founder of the event, Cody Anderson, said they had outgrown the RiverPark Center, which hosted the event since its inception in 2019. Previous years saw more than 600 people venture downtown.

This year was no different.

“We’re definitely pleased with the turnout, even though we had to move it more inside because of some overnight weather,” he said. “We have well over 500 people in here right now, and there’s still room for growth.”

While beer was the focal point, folks also sampled various ciders, seltzers, and wines. Green River Distillery even showed up to offer bourbon sampling and cocktails.

Anderson said the group has no intentions of slowing down and will continue to grow and evolve the event in the future.

“We’re looking forward to returning here next year,” he said. “We will announce a date within the next couple of months.”
