Inspired by an episode of NBC’s Parks and Recreation, Tamarra Miller wanted a way to celebrate local female business owners. So, Galentines Day — which will be on Feb. 13 — will be a day for women to celebrate women.
“What better way to do that than to support some of our local businesses and ones that are female-owned and some of my personal favorites,” said Miller, owner of Brasher’s Lil’ Nashville in downtown Owensboro.
Brasher’s is hosting a celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 13, with the female-owned businesses of Grindstone Trading Co., M.Porium Jewelry & Art, and Hampton & Co. Designs also participating.
Mary Katherine Maddox, owner of M.Porium, said that she was excited to join the party because she loves any opportunity to pop up with her artwork and jewelry.
“There’s nothing better than getting together, with your girls especially,” Maddox said.
Maddox said that during the day-to-day, she feels women are continuously working — whether it be checking in on friends, taking care of families and so many other ways.
“This is a moment of self-care for some women to celebrate our achievements with other women,” Maddox said.
M.Porium will be doing a free surprise gift along with a purchase of an item — while her supplies last on that day.
Miller feels the celebration is a meaningful way to support not only the businesses but also the women themselves.
“I think it’s super important to highlight those in our lives that have supported us, made a difference, inspired us. This is a great way that we can give back to them,” Miller said.
Miller said she will be offering $15 bottomless mimosas during the event and asks for customers to come dressed in 50 shades of pink from head to toe. Their location is 123 W. 2nd Street.
It also isn’t exclusive to women. Miller invites husbands, boyfriends and others to attend and enjoy the festivities.
