The Raiders fought their way back to an overtime victory on Monday, while Apollo’s offense fell flat in the second half and fell in its respective matchup.

Trinity vs. Meade County

Holding the Green Wave to single digits in the fourth quarter, Trinity replicated its defensive efforts in overtime to claim a 61-56 win at home.

The Raiders found themselves trailing 13-7 after the first quarter, as Meade County was able to get nine points from beyond the arc to grab momentum early.

Junior Landon Huff tried to give Trinity’s offense a lift by recording nine points in the second, but they weren’t able to slow the Green Wave down and went into halftime trailing 29-18.

The Raiders offense came to life to open up the second half, as they were able to grab nine points from deep and exploded for 20 points in the quarter. Their efforts helped them bring their deficit to 40-38 going into the fourth.

Senior Bailey Wright showed up big in the fourth, grabbing six of the team’s 11 points. While Trinity didn’t have its strongest quarter offensively, its defense held Meade County to single digits and forced overtime with things knotted up at 49-49.

It was defense that was the key once again in OT, as the Raiders were able to hold the Green Wave to just seven points. Going for 12 with five coming from junior Landon Smith, Trinity’s efforts on both ends helped them come away with a 61-56 win.

Huff led all scorers with 21 points, while Smith (11), Wright (10) and junior Gavin Howard (10) all finished in double figures for the Raiders.

Trinity has now won four of its last five and sits at 9-8 overall going into a road matchup with Butler County at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.

Apollo vs. Russellville

Apollo was unable to fend off the Panthers in the second half, as the Eagles were held to single digits and ultimately fell 60-47 on the road.

Getting 11 points from sophomore Eli Masteron in the first quarter, Apollo’s offense was clicking early and jumped out to a 16-12 lead going into the second.

The Eagles offense didn’t miss a beat in the second, as Masteron (seven) and senior Grant Smith (five) combined for 12 of the team’s 17 points and went into halftime owning a narrow 33-31 lead.

Both teams went back and forth coming out of the locker room, with Russellville fighting for the slight edge and tying things up at 43-43 by holding Apollo to 10 points in the third.

In the fourth quarter the Eagles offense was nowhere to be found, as they were held to one basket and two free throws. Meanwhile the Panthers offense had its strongest quarter of the night, closing the game out and walking away with a 60-47 win.

Masterson led all scorers with 20 points, while no other player scored more than nine points for Apollo on the night. The loss makes it eight straight for the Eagles, as they fall to 2-18 on the season.

Looking to bounce back and find themselves in the winning column for the first time since Dec. 31, Apollo will have a tough home matchup against Henderson County at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
