Kentucky Canine Campus — formerly known as Paws Town Campus — officially opened up a dog gym full of activities for pets to enjoy on Saturday, and the business owners said they have been experiencing a nice turnout since.

The gym, located at 4617 Sutherland Road, includes several different attractions including AKC-regulation-sized agility equipment, a treadmill and one of the safest floor options for high-impact activity.

Co-owner Terri Spencer said at the Saturday doggy play date, there were seven puppies and a steady flow of others coming in throughout the day.

Being able to offer such a facility to the community is a longtime wish for Spencer, and she is grateful that she can provide.

“It’s huge for me; it’s been a lifelong dream. I’ve been involved with dogs since I was a kid. Now I’m 40 years old now and this is something that I wanted to do for a long time,” Spencer said.

Although Monday’s snow did slow the traffic a bit, Spencer said that they have heard several positive responses from customers and seen the dogs enjoying themselves throughout the gym.

Spencer said that there are memberships available for people looking to become regular dog gym members. A day pass is $14.99 for unlimited access during open gym hours, while a monthly membership is $49.99 plus $10 for any additional dogs.

During gym hours there will be screens and monitors to make sure there isn’t any aggression toward other dogs or humans. There are also protocols in place to ensure there are vaccinations and dogs aren’t spreading illness.

The gym is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
