Daviess County Fiscal Court on Monday approved a contract with Strategic Adventures to start a feasibility study for an outdoor adventure park at the county’s property Blackford Creek.

The 80-acre property is located between North Chestnut Grove Road and Kelly Cemetery Road in Maceo and was previously donated to the county in 2009.

David Smith, Director of Legislative Services with Fiscal Court, said the company providing the study will take 30 days to fully evaluate the grounds and have the results by the end of the year.

“They will explore all different types of outdoor adventure type applications whether it be ziplining, ropes, challenge courses, skywalks,” Smith said.

The consultant will also evaluating two other sites in Daviess County to see what the best location would be.

Smith said he found Strategic Adventures after they did a study with London, Kentucky, to create an outdoor adventure area. The survey costs the county $9,500.

Part of the study will also test if the park will be financially viable in the local market.
