Owensboro Catholic hit the .500 mark to end the regular season, defeating Elizabethtown 36-9 to go into the playoffs owning a 4-0 district record.

After neither team was able to create much offensively throughout the first quarter, Owensboro Catholic was finally able to break through with 1:08 left as sophomore Hunter Monroe found the endzone with a 10-yard rush to go up 7-0.

A defensive stop shortly into the second quarter allowed the Aces to expand on their lead, as senior quarterback Lincoln Clancy found sophomore Mitchell Sims downfield for a 40-yard touchdown to go up 13-0 with 11:38 left in the first half.

Less than two minutes later Clancy connected with senior Everett Munsey for another 40-yard touchdown and took a 19-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half.

It took nearly six minutes for Owensboro Catholic to find the endzone again, as a nine-yard catch for Munsey marked his second touchdown of the day and gave them a 27-0 lead with 4:33 left in the second quarter.

After a long offensive drought, Elizabethtown was able to crack the scoreboard twice a little unconventionally before going into the locker room.

A bad snap for the Aces allowed the Panthers to recover it in the endzone for a safety with 29 seconds left in the second quarter, before using a two-yard run to give themselves their first touchdown of the night. Despite this late effort offensively, they still trailed Owensboro Catholic 27-9 going into the second half.

The Aces continued their strong offensive performance in the second half, grabbing another touchdown when Clancy hit sophomore William Carrico for 25 yards to go up 33-9 with 6:40 left in the third quarter.

The game hit a stalemate until Owensboro Catholic struck in the fourth quarter, hitting a field goal that would ultimately wrap up their victory by making it a 36-9 game as the buzzer sounded.

The Aces thrived through the air against Elizabethtown, as Clancy threw four touchdowns with three different receivers getting involved.

The Owensboro Catholic defense also held its own, limiting the Panthers to just nine points before halftime, while blanking them in the second half.

Now riding a five-game winning streak, the Aces will turn their attention to postseason play against Butler County when they host the Bears at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5.
