The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has opened a survey to help identify goals and policies that could take effect statewide for the next 20 years.
Owensboro Owensboro Metropolitan Planning Commission Coordinator Tom Lovett said public input is “extremely” important in the survey as the state goes forth with plans. This is part of the Long-Range Statewide Transportation Plan (LRSTP) and will help the state identify its priorities and where to allocate transportation funds.
Updating the LRSTP is an 18-month process that started in July and will run until December 2022. KYTC is partnering with consultants from Michael Baker International to develop a comprehensive plan over the next year and a half.
Currently, the project is in the first phase and won’t transition to the next until January 2022. After then, they will spend the next phase building the draft for the LRSTP and Implementation Plan and have public review and comment on the draft.
“As we set the course for the future of Kentucky’s transportation system, we’re giving everyone a voice in the planning process,” a KYTC flyer reads.
The survey takes about 5 minutes according to Lovett. The survey covers different priorities including views on highways, bridges, sidewalks, buses, bike lanes and more.
