Following a huge win against Graves County on the road, Owensboro football is looking to extend its winning streak to eight games against Grayson County.

The Red Devils are coming off a 35-28 road win against the Eagles, using a late touchdown in the final minute of the game from senior Tramel Barksdale to claim the victory.

Barksdale was the key in Owensboro’s offense last Friday, running for 161 yards on 28 attempts, while also earning three touchdowns.

Junior Kasey Boone had an off game, throwing for 90 yards and two interceptions of 6-14 passing. Limiting these interceptions and other turnovers are something Head Coach Jay Fallin said that they have focused on in practice.

“Keep sharpening things up that we are not yet doing at a “November-ready” level,” Fallin said. “We fumbled the ball in a critical moment and had two interceptions against Graves, one of which was returned for a TD. That won’t be good enough to win big games. We’ve got to clean up ball security.”

They were able to earn some interceptions on defense themselves and they will hope to replicate against Grayson County.

Grayson County is coming off a big victory over Ohio County, defeating them 52-7 on the backs strong play from senior running back Chandler Mccrady and junior quarterback Hunter Felty.

Felty threw for 191 yards and four touchdowns off of 12-14 passing. Meanwhile, he also ran for 86 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.

Mccrady led the rushing game with a total of 99 yards on nine carries, while also earning two touchdowns himself. With such a balanced offense, they won’t be able to single out one player and try to limit them entirely.

Fallin knows that this matchup will not be an easy one and that his team has to be laser focused on Friday in front of their home crowd.

“Coach Jones and his staff do a very good job of preparing their kids,” Fallin said. “They will be lined up properly, have good scheme and play hard. Their QB makes them go, he is a very good ball carrier and their offensive line works hard to create running lanes.”

Fallin said that he and the team are going to put their best foot forward Friday in order to stay undefeated in district play and host playoff games, while also focusing on getting valuable experience for future matchups.

“As we near the end of the regular season, we want to be sharp in all 3 phases of the game from start to finish,” Fallin said. “So often in late round post-season games, the team that wins is the team that makes the fewest mistakes. That isn’t a switch that can simply be turned on when it comes playoff time. We need to be getting closer every week to executing and playing “clean” for 48 minutes.”

Owensboro will take the field looking to return to its winning ways against Grayson County at 7 p.m. on Friday
