In the absence of the City of Owensboro’s Trail of Treats, members of the community have come together to organize their own event that is being called “a LOT of Treats.” The event will be held in the parking lot of the former Macy’s at Towne Square Mall from 4-8 p.m. on Oct. 28.
The event is being hosted by Greater Owensboro Realty Co., and proceeds from donations are going toward local nonprofits Friends of Sinners and My Sister’s Keeper.
Community members Chris and Leann Bishop spearheaded the event, acting quickly after many people publicly expressed their disappointment that the city’s Trail of Treats had been cancelled.
“If we have 50 businesses and 50 cars at the minimum our kids are not coming home with less than 100 pieces of candy, which is amazing,” Leann said.
During that event, booths will be set up to hand out candy to the attendees.
People are able to set up by notifying the Bishops. Donations are also being accepted by are not required. Spaces are available to businesses for a $100 donation, though individuals wishing to set up are not required to make a donation. All proceeds will be donated to Friends of Sinners.
“We’re trying to get at least 50 businesses, and that is going to give at $5,000 to a local charity,” Leann said.
To reserve a space, call Friends of Sinners Development Director Jordan Wilson at 270-244-4904. The deadline to reserve a space is Oct. 25.
