Local officials said the KY 54 expansion project is at the top of not only their road project list but near the top of the state’s as well. On Tuesday, the Metropolitan Planning Organization evaluated road projects for Daviess County to submit to the state for funding as part of the semiannual assessment for SHIFT.
Among a list of more than 2,000 projects submitted throughout the commonwealth, the expansion of KY 54 is among the highest priorities for the state. The project is currently divided into four sections: from west of US 60 to Bold Forbes Way; Bold Forbes Way to Thruston-Dermont Road; Thruston-Dermont Road to Countryside Drive; and Countryside Drive to Jack Hinton Road.
US 60 to Bold Forbes Way was already at the top of the list of projects throughout the state with a score of 61.89 before the KYTC District 2 members boosted the score with 15 points.
The boosting allows for the transportation district and local officials to indicate which project is important. After today’s meeting, the project sits at 91.89.
“Some sections are going to move faster than others. [US-60 to Bold Forbes Way] is one we’re working on right now,” Mike Hall said.
The group also agreed to apply an additional 15 boost points to the Thruston-Dermont Road to Countryside Drive section, as well as 15 points each to improve the work from KY 3335 to KY 54 and reconstructing an intersection at Fairview Drive and KY 258.
With these boost points, KYTC will take the newly updated list from across the commonwealth and make recommendations to the legislature.
After the list was revised, Tom Lovett with GRADD said that there is not much of an update on the outer loop project. KYTC is scheduled to attend the September meeting and officially close out the project.
