The Owensboro Metropolitan Planning Organization’s virtual meeting Tuesday will include a quick review of the public comments on the outer loop study earlier this year. Officials said this update would be short, and those who conducted the study are scheduled to attend the September meeting.
Tom Lovett, MPO Coordinator for the Green River Area Development District, said with no new information on the outer loop, the meeting instead will be focused on the potential funding for the KY 54 expansion work.
Through the SHIFT process, MPOs across the commonwealth apply for funding for specific road projects. The state then ranks the projects based on importance and distributes funding according to that ranking.
According to Lovett, the KY 54 expansion plan is the highest-ranked project among all projects statewide.
The city was able to submit nine projects to the state. During the meeting Tuesday, they will be distributing “bonus points” that will determine the priority of the city’s projects and impact their score amongst the state’s projects.
The MPO will be streaming the meeting live on the GRADD Facebook page. A member of the GRADD staff will be monitoring the page for questions and comments from the public.
“We absolutely believe that the public has a right to access these meetings and what’s going on to stay updated,” Lovett said.
