The Owensboro Thoroughbreds have made their way to Las Vegas, Nevada, for a little summer league action.

This summer league put on by The Basketball League is for current players to bolster their skills and free agents a chance to make a roster.

There are 14 teams with about eight to eleven players each, and games are low scoring with the time set at four to eight minute running quarters.

The Thoroughbreds roster is composed of current players Jaiveon Eaves, Donavan Griffith, Evan Milligan and Kameron Moore, four players from the Waco Royals and two free agents.

Head Coach Mark Anderson said the hope in competing in this league is still the same as during the regular season—giving the athletes exposure.

“[Getting them] experience playing and an opportunity to be seen by agents and coaches from other countries,” Anderson said.

The Thoroughbreds played their first game on Tuesday, falling to the San Diego Guardians 58-50.

Anderson said it was the Guardians efficiency on offense and Owensboro’s struggles at the free throw line that came back to bite them.

Regardless of the result, Anderson and company are thrilled to be getting a little extra work and more exposure in a different environment.

“It’s a great environment and the comaraderie amongst the coaches and players has been terrific so far,” Anderson said.

Playing through August 12, Anderson the team just has to come together on the court in order to be successful.

“Playing team basketball usually does well in these type of basketball events,” Anderson said.
