The 12u Owensboro Eastern All-Stars stayed hot and were able to overcome a late offensive outburst from Kennewick, Washington, and come away with a 8-5 win in their second game of the Cal Ripken World Series.
Eastern grabbed the first lead of the ballgame in the first inning, taking advantage of Kennewick’s miscues and scoring on a wild pitch.
They were able to grab three more in the fourth, thanks to a single from Khilan Hamilton and a groundout that led to a run from Alex Hood.
This left Eastern well in charge, while Kennewick looked to claw their way back into the game with a five-run inning.
Regardless of the big rally, this left them trailing 8-5 which was all Owensboro needed to secure its second win in pool play.
Jayden James gave a solid performance after earning the starting nod, tossing three innings and not allowing a hit, run, or walk while striking out eight. Offensively they were led by Ty Lillpop, who went 2-4 on the day.
Owensboro will continue to represent the Ohio Valley Region when they take on Rockville Virginia at 9 a.m..
