The Owensboro Bombers season came to a close Friday, as fielding blunders once again faltered them in their 4-1 loss to Barrington, Illinois.

It was Barrington who got on the board first, putting up four runs in the top half of the first inning.

Errors once again plagued Owensboro, leading to runs for Barrington. A leadoff walk and back-to-back singles had the bases loaded, but the first run of the game scored after the next at-bat thanks to an error.

Two outs later, another error allowed three runs to score, giving Barrington an early 4-0 lead after the Bombers escaped the inning before major damage could happen.

After the big inning, Hunter Payne bounced back and had a solid performance in which he only allowed one earned run.

This gave Owensboro the chance to try and build some momentum by putting together some offense in the bottom of the fifth.

Back-to-back singles from Ethan Gibson and Harrison Bowman led to a two-out RBI single from Jordan Tolle to cut the deficit to 4-1.

However, this wasn’t enough to turn the tides for the Bombers, as they fell to Barrington 4-1 and were eliminated from the American Legion Great Lakes Regional Tournament.

Owensboro matched Barrington’s seven hits, but was unable to take advantage and string together runs.

Errors came back to bite the Bombers in the end, with five errors leading to four runs, with one run allowed during the game being earned.
