The Owensboro Bombers did not have the same luck in Game Two as Game One, failing to put together enough offense and a myriad of errors leading to a 12-2 loss at the hands of Morgantown, Virginia.

It seemed like it would be a back-and-forth affair right out of the gate, with both teams putting up a run in the first inning. However, Morgantown made sure to set the two teams apart over the next few innings.

Following a leadoff single by Ethan Smith, an error on a bunt led to Smith scoring and Domenic Colasante reaching second.

Morgantown took advantage of another error later in the inning, helping Colasante score on a passed ball to put them up 3-1 going into the third.

Another error by the Bombers allowed a run to cross when Smith doubled the following at-bat, with another run scoring after a dropped third strike shortly after to make it a 5-1 game.

Morgantown capped off the inning with a slew of two-out singles, driving in two more runs to take a commanding 7-1 lead.

They just kept pouring it on against Owensboro, scoring in every inning of the game, scoring five to ultimately end up short-gaming the Bombers.

Eight errors for Owensboro during didn’t help the cause, paired with some walks that led to runs as well. A walk let the first run of the fourth come in, with an RBI single from Cody Thomas expanding Morgantown’s lead to 9-2.

They proceeded to score three runs over the fifth and sixth inning and then shut out the Bombers once again in the bottom of the sixth.

This inability to piece together hits and rally for runs as well as a plethora of fielding blunders ultimately was Owensboro’s downfall, falling to Morgantown 12-2.

Of the 12 runs the Bombers allowed, only five were earned, despite 11 hits on the day for Morgantown.

Now sitting at 1-1 during the American Legion Great Lakes Regional Tournament, they will take the field again against Barrington, Illinois, at 4 p.m. Friday.
