A great effort from the bullpen led to late-game heroics from Paul Coumoulos secured a 4-3 walk-off win in extra innings over the Henderson Flash for the Owensboro RiverDawgs.
The RiverDawgs got on the board first in the bottom of the third, thanks to some trickery on the basepaths that allowed Kyle Hogwood to score while Kail Hill attempted to steal second.
An RBI single from Cameron Nichols drove in Coumoulos, giving Owensboro a quick 2-0 lead heading into the fifth.
The Flash were able to knot things up in the top of the sixth. A walk and a double quickly gave them a scoring threat and they came through during the next at-bat.
Ryan Dos Santos scored on a passed ball cutting the deficit to 2-1, while Nick Rucker then tied things at 2-2 with a sacrifice fly.
Henderson grabbed its first lead of the game the following inning, thanks to a two-out single. While the bases were loaded, Rucker’s single only brought one in as Brandon Daniels was thrown out at the plate, giving the Flash a 3-2 lead.
With two outs and their backs up against the wall, Hogwood was able to find a gap in left, singling to drive in Steven Diaz and knot things up at 3-3.
Owensboro had struggled to string together hits all game and that continued in extra innings. However, Coumoulos had led the RiverDawgs in hits with a 2-5 day and struck again when it mattered most.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 12th, Coumoulos hit one deep in between short and third, finding his way to first to secure a 4-3 walk-off win.
Coumoulos finished the day with a 3-6 performance at the plate, with the game-winning RBI being the lone one on the day.
Westin Stutzman, Noah Cantleberry and Nick Belcher shut down the Flash out of the pen, allowing three hits and striking out five in six innings of relief.
Brayden Busch went six innings in his start for Owensboro, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out four.
With a three-game winning streak under their belt, the RiverDawgs will hit the road for their next matchup with the Muhlenberg County Stallions at 7:05 p.m.
