Offensive fireworks from the Franklin Duelers led to a 12-4 July fourth loss for the Owensboro RiverDawgs.

The RiverDawgs got things started in the top of the second, taking a 1-0 lead thanks to a two-out RBI single from Chase Harlan.

However, a two-out RBI single from Lance Upright for the Duelers quickly knotted things up at 1-1.

With a little deja vu, both teams brought across one run in the third, keeping it all knotted up at 2-2 heading into the fourth.

Franklin was able to grab its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out RBI single from Benny Hymes and the Duelers never looked back.

After padding their lead to 4-2 with a solo home run from Jack Rando in the bottom of the sixth, Franklin continued to pour on the offense in the bottom of the seventh.

The Duelers kept the two-out rallies going in the seventh, as a two-out single from Rando brought home Carter Vraebel and Austin Ehren to make it a 6-2 game.

Owensboro was able to keep things within reach thanks to grabbing two runs via a walked-in run and an RBI groundout for Cole Gober to cut it to 6-4 heading into the bottom of the eighth.

Looking to complete a comeback, walks killed the RiverDawgs in the bottom of the eighth. Six walks—three of which brought in runs— a hit by pitch and two doubles led to six runs for the Duelers.

This 12-4 lead gave Vraebel ample room to come into the ninth and shut the door, handing Owensboro the loss and pushing them to 11-15 overall.

The RiverDawgs will return after a day off, taking on the Muhlenberg County Stallions at home at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
