Late game heroics from Adam Euler pushed the Dubois County Bombers past the Owensboro RiverDawgs for the second time this week with a 2-1 win.
Aric Lyons was able to hold the Bombers for the first three innings and the RiverDawgs took advantage.
After a pop out to start the bottom of the third, Connor Zagrodnik walked and PJ Barry doubled to put runners on second and third.
Kail Hill grounded into a fielder’s choice during the next at-bat, putting Owensboro’s scoring opportunity at risk with two outs.
However, Hayden Hirschvogel came through with an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead for the RiverDawgs.
Dubois County responded in the top of the sixth, kicking things off with a leadoff walk followed by a single from Guy Lipscomb to put runners on the corners with no outs.
Mason Landers then grounded out, but brought home a run in the process to knot things up at 1-1.
The RiverDawgs were able to limit the damage to just the one run, but were unable to muster up any offense over the seventh and eighth.
With one final chance before the bottom of the ninth, Euler changed the game with one swing of the bat, homering to right field to take a 2-1 lead for the Bombers.
Paul Cuomoulos looked to create a spark with a leadoff double in the bottom of ninth, but Carter Stamm shut down the next three batters to secure the 2-1 victory for Dubois County.
Tyler Wheeler gave the Bombers a solid start on the mound, tossing seven innings while only allowing one run on three hits to go along with eight strikeouts. Dubois County’s bullpen also helped shut the door, only allowing two hits.
The RiverDawgs nearly replicated the Bombers pitching performance, but the lone home run in the game made the difference.
Now sitting at 11-14, Owensboro will return to action when they hit the road to take on the Franklin Duelers at 4 p.m.
